Configure hardware

Before any recovery may be attempted, it is necessary for the relevant to media to be attached, and recognised in some way by the computer. Full details of this are in the chapter Media Detection.


How to recover

Once the required media has been recognised by the computer, then recovery can be started. By default the program will display the Wizard and for many applications this may be a good solution. However, if the media is very corrupted, or a specific file is required, then it may be decided that a more manual, or hands on approach can be taken.  This could include using the sector viewer to look at specific sectors, and maybe get a feel for possible corruption, or failed sectors. Manual operation can also be useful for disks with multiple partitions, and partition types.
